Junior Attorney- Criminal Law & Protection Orders

A well-established law firm is looking for a recently admitted / junior Attorney to join their Criminal Law & Protection Orders Department.

The successful candidate will primarily be responsible for criminal matters and Protection Order proceedings, with a strong focus on court appearances, client consultations and managing allocated matters.

Minimum requirements:

LLB degree
Admitted Attorney / recently admitted Attorney eligible to practise
Fluent in English and Afrikaans
Valid drivers licence and confident driver
Willing to travel to courts, police stations and detention facilities, including outlying areas
Strong communication, organisational and administrative skills
Able to work independently and under pressure
Computer literate

Key Responsibilities:

Attend court and represent clients in criminal and Protection Order matters
Handle bail applications, appearances, trials and related Magistrates Court proceedings
Consult with clients and obtain instructions
Prepare matters and court documentation
Manage allocated files, caseload and court diary
Liaise with prosecutors, investigating officers, court personnel, opposing attorneys and counsel
Keep clients and senior attorneys updated on matters
Maintain accurate file and case records
Record fees, attendances and billable work
