Financial Controller

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Financial Controller to join the team in East London. This role involves financial reporting, management support, and oversight of subsidiary entities. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring compliance, driving efficiency, and providing valuable financial insights across the group.

Key Responsibilities
  • Liaise with bookkeepers of multiple external entities (approx. 6 to start).
  • Assist with full-spectrum accounting, VAT, and income tax queries.
  • Support the preparation of monthly Management Accounts.
  • Prepare annual audit files for submission to auditors.
  • Contribute to budgeting processes for external clients.
  • Train and upskill bookkeepers as needed.
  • Review Management Accounts and financial reports.
  • Promote the service offering to potential clients, including software demonstrations and presentations.
  • Identify and qualify new business opportunities through networking, referrals, and industry events.
  • Meet with potential clients to assess needs and present tailored solutions.
  • Prepare service proposals, quotations, and contracts, ensuring compliance.
  • Collaborate with internal teams on service delivery and client onboarding.
  • Monitor industry trends and competitor offerings.
  • Maintain accurate sales and client records, tracking KPIs.
  • Act as a point of contact for new clients, ensuring smooth onboarding and ongoing satisfaction.
Qualifications & Experience
  • BCom Accounting degree or equivalent finance qualification.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a mid to senior finance role.
  • Proven experience in Management Accounts preparation and reporting.
  • Strong background in audit preparation and auditor liaison.
  • Solid knowledge of IFRS and relevant accounting standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft, Sage Accpac, Xero, Spotlight, or similar accounting systems.
  • Advanced Excel skills (including complex formulae).
  • Excellent numerical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with both clients and staff.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to work under pressure and manage deadlines.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently.
  • Willingness to work overtime when required.
  • Fluency in English (verbal and written) at a first-language level.
