Key Responsibilities:

Policy Development:

  • Formulate and update safety policies and procedures to align with regulatory requirements and industry best practices
  • Implement systems to ensure effective communication of safety guidelines throughout the organization

Compliance Oversight:

  • Monitor and ensure adherence to local, state, and federal safety regulations
  • Conduct regular audits to assess compliance and identify areas for improvement

Risk Management:

  • Lead risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement mitigation strategies
  • Collaborate with operational teams to integrate safety measures into daily activities

Training and Education:

  • Develop and deliver comprehensive safety training programs for employees at all levels
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning by staying informed about emerging safety trends and technologies

Incident Investigation:

  • Manage and conduct thorough investigations into accidents, incidents, or near misses
  • Analyze root causes and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence

Emergency Preparedness:

  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans, ensuring all personnel are adequately trained
  • Coordinate drills to assess the effectiveness of emergency procedures

Safety Culture Promotion:

  • Work with leadership to cultivate a safety-conscious culture throughout the organization
  • Encourage employee engagement and participation in safety initiatives

Minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field
  • Relevant safety certification
  • 3 years plus of progressive safety management experience in mining or heavy industry (Proven track record of successful safety program development and implementation)
  • In-depth understanding of safety regulations applicable to the mining industry
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey safety information effectively
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence and inspire a safety-focused culture
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for incident investigations and risk assessments
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and navigate dynamic operational environments
  • Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and influence safety initiatives at all levels
