Vereeniging (GP) - Boiler Operator

Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Operate and monitor the 20-ton John Thompson water tube boiler and all associated steam system equipment.
• Conduct pre-startup checks, boiler light-up, shutdowns and emergency response procedures.
• Maintain optimum pressure, temperature and water levels in accordance with operational standards.
• Carry out daily, weekly and monthly inspections and log sheet updates.
• Record boiler operating data (temperatures, pressures, chemical readings, etc.).
• Perform water quality tests (TDS, pH, phosphate, etc.) and coordinate chemical dosing or water treatment with suppliers.
• Conduct routine blowdowns and manage condensate return systems.
• Report and assist in fault finding, repairs and general maintenance.
• Ensure compliance with all OHSA, SANS and Department of Labour boiler regulations.
• Liaise with maintenance teams, production personnel and external inspectors.
