Development Manager (Software)
Job Description:
My client operates in the shortâterm insurance domain and is seeking a Development Manager to lead and stabilize their development function. This is a senior leadership role focused on delivery reliability, production stability, and maintaining strong engineering standards in a complex, regulated environment.
Youll be responsible for overseeing development delivery, managing and mentoring developers, and ensuring that technical decisions align with business and client needs. While this is not a handsâon coding role, it is also not an administrative management position, youre expected to engage at a technical level, challenge solutions, and guide the team when complexity or risk increases.What youll be responsible for:
Leading and managing the development department in a deliveryâdriven environment Overseeing planning, prioritization, and execution of development work
Ensuring delivery timelines are met while maintaining technical quality Managing workloads, risks, dependencies, and production stability
Maintaining development standards, code review practices, and release discipline Providing technical leadership around design, architecture, and problemâsolving Supporting and mentoring developers through regular performance discussions Identifying skills gaps and development needs within the team
Ensuring documentation, processes, and technical standards remain current Communicating progress, risks, and resourcing needs to business leadershipThis role suits someone who enjoys ownership, accountability, and being trusted to run a function properly.
Skills & Experience:
- Minimum 810+ years experience in software development
- Minimum 35+ years experience in a development management or leadership role
- Proven experience managing development teams in a deliveryâfocused environment
- Strong understanding of the full software development lifecycle
- Experience with release management, production risk, and delivery governance
- Ability to engage technically (architecture discussions, code reviews, solution design)
- Experience in the shortâterm insurance industry (strongly preferred)
- Confident communicator who can work across technical and business stakeholders
Qualification:
- Relevant degree or equivalent professional Proven leadership and technical credibility are prioritised.
