Role Overview
My client is seeking a Junior Qualified Diesel Mechanic to join their Johannesburg depot. The successful candidate will support the maintenance, servicing and repair of diesel engine vehicles within the fleet. This role requires a hands-on, technically minded individual who is eager to develop their experience in a large workshop environment while ensuring that vehicles remain safe, reliable and operational.
The ideal candidate must be proactive in assisting with preventative maintenance, identifying potential risks and supporting the workshop team with effective repairs when mechanical faults or breakdowns occur. The role also requires responsibility for workshop tools, supplies and accurate repair documentation to ensure the maintenance operation remains organised, efficient and cost-effective.
Key ResponsibilitiesAssisting with the maintenance, servicing and repair of diesel engine vehicles within the fleet.
Supporting mechanical inspections to identify faults, wear and potential risks.
Assisting with preventative maintenance to reduce breakdowns and operational delays.
Diagnosing and repairing mechanical faults under guidance were required.
Supporting repairs on coaches, trucks and heavy-duty vehicles.
Assisting with work on engines, gearboxes, differentials and related mechanical components.
Ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and to the required technical standard.
Looking after workshop tools, mechanical inspection tools and equipment.
Assisting with tooling, supplies and workshop stock control.
Maintaining accurate job cards, repair records and related workshop documentation.
Communicating clearly with supervisors, senior mechanics and workshop team members.
Supporting a clean, organised and safe workshop environment.
Being available for standby duties and weekend work when required.
Minimum RequirementsGrade 12 / Matric.
Qualified Diesel Mechanic Trade Test.
Valid Code EC or EC1 drivers license.
Previous work experience as a Diesel Technician in a large workshop environment would be advantageous.
Experience working on coaches, trucks or heavy-duty vehicles would be advantageous.
Experience with engine, gearbox and differential overhauls would be advantageous.
Experience working on Volvo, Scania and Mercedes-Benz vehicles would be advantageous.
Strong technical understanding and practical mechanical knowledge.
Good communication skills.
Honest, reliable, dependable and highly motivated.
Willing and able to work standby and weekends when required.
