Sales Manager – Formal Retail Market
The Sales Manager – Formal Market is responsible for driving new business acquisition within the formal merchant segment. This role focuses on actively selling and placing Tap2Pay and POS solutions into registered, established businesses operating in the formal economy.
This is a highly executional, field-based role. Success comes from strong prospecting discipline, resilience, professionalism and the ability to convert leads into live, transacting merchants. This position is best suited to a true hunter — someone who thrives on targets, handles rejection confidently and consistently closes deals.
Key Responsibilities
New Business Development- Identify, target and onboard new formal market merchants aligned to growth objectives.
- Generate your own pipeline through cold calling, walk-ins, networking and referrals.
- Conduct on-site sales visits and deliver compelling product demonstrations.
- Build trust with business owners and key decision-makers.
- Convert prospects into active merchants and ensure first transactions take place quickly.
- Sell Tap2Pay and POS solutions within the formal market segment.
- Assess merchant needs and recommend the correct product fit.
- Support merchants through onboarding, documentation and activation processes.
- Ensure merchants understand product usage and benefits to reduce early churn.
- Maintain a structured weekly pipeline with consistent prospecting activity.
- Track performance against activity targets (visits, calls, demos, conversions).
- Follow up consistently from lead through to close.
- Maintain accurate CRM updates and onboarding records.
- Gather competitor insights and customer feedback from the field.
- Identify trends in pricing pressure, feature requests and objections.
- Share actionable insights with Sales leadership to improve strategy and messaging.
- Represent the business professionally within the formal market.
- Maintain high standards of communication, appearance and conduct.
- Uphold company values in every interaction.
Requirements
Experience- 3–5 years’ experience in outbound or new business sales (field sales preferred).
- Experience in fintech, payments, POS, merchant services, banking or similar sectors is advantageous.
- Proven track record of consistently meeting or exceeding sales targets.
- Strong sales drive and resilience.
- Self-starter with high levels of ownership and accountability.
- Excellent communication, objection-handling and negotiation skills.
- Structured and disciplined with CRM and administrative processes.
- Strong commercial thinking and territory planning ability.
- Valid driver’s licence.
- Willingness to travel extensively within assigned regions and occasionally across provinces.
- Comfortable working across diverse trading environments.
- Flexible working hours when required.
- Smartphone proficiency and comfort using mobile apps and CRM systems.
- Ability to operate independently in the field while maintaining strong internal communication.
