We are seeking a highly analytical Senior Estimator with strong commercial acumen to join a dynamic Africa Operations team. Based in, this permanent role is critical to supporting business growth through the preparation of accurate, competitive, and commercially sound cost estimates for large-scale construction and engineering projects across the African continent.
The Role
The Senior Estimator will work closely with Regional Managing Directors and multi-disciplinary teams (Engineering, Procurement, and Operations) to ensure tenders are strategically priced and aligned with profitability and governance requirements.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Preparing accurate cost models including labor, materials, plant, and indirect costs.
- Analyzing tender documentation, technical drawings, and specifications.
- Identifying commercial, technical, and operational risks early in the tender stage.
- Evaluating subcontractor and supplier quotations to ensure market competitiveness.
- Supporting value engineering initiatives to enhance project profitability.
- Participating in tender clarification meetings and conducting periodic site inspections within Africa.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must meet the following criteria:
- Education: Tertiary qualification in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- Estimating Experience: 58 years of estimating experience within construction, engineering, or infrastructure environments.
- Site Experience: Minimum 58 years of hands-on site experience in the construction industry.
- Project Scope: Proven track record in preparing estimates for large-scale construction or EPC projects.
- Software Proficiency: Advanced skills in CCS (Candy), Buildsmart, and MS Excel.
- Contracts: Strong working knowledge of FIDIC, NEC, or JBCC contract forms.
- Travel: Willingness and ability to travel within Africa as required.
- Deep understanding of construction methodologies and detailed cost build-ups.
- Strong financial and numerical analytical skills.
- Ability to analyze historical cost data and market trends to build benchmarks.
- Excellent deadline management and organizational abilities.
- Knowledge of African project environments is highly advantageous.
