Company and Job Description:
A leading player within the logistics and cargo sector is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to take ownership of national operations, customer experience, and service delivery. This is a critical leadership role suited to a hands-on operator who thrives in fast-paced, regulated environments.You will be responsible for driving operational excellence across multiple touchpoints, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, and delivering a seamless customer experience.
The role requires a strong balance between people leadership, operational oversight, and strategic input. Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee national operations, ensuring efficient cargo handling, service delivery, and operational consistency
- Drive customer experience initiatives, ensuring high service standards and resolution of operational or service-related issues
- Manage stakeholder relationships, including internal teams, clients, and service providers, ensuring alignment and performance against SLAs
- Oversee operational reporting, including performance metrics, audits, and incident management, with regular reporting to senior leadership
- Lead and develop teams through coaching, performance management, and workforce planning
- Ensure full compliance with regulatory, safety, and quality standards within a highly regulated environment
- Manage operational budgets, monitor expenditure, and identify opportunities for cost optimisation and revenue growth
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across operations, systems, and service delivery
Job Experience and Skills Required:
Education:
- Diploma in Business Management, Administration, or related field (NQF Level 7)
Experience:
- 35 years operational experience within cargo, logistics, or a similar high-volume environment
- Minimum 3 years experience in a management role overseeing operations and teams
- Proven experience in customer service management and stakeholder engagement
- Experience dealing with HR and IR-related matters
Skills:
- Strong leadership and people management capability
- Solid understanding of operational processes within logistics or supply chain environments
- Strong reporting and analytical skills
- Proficiency in operational systems and Microsoft Office tools
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-pressure environment
Additional Requirements:
- Strong knowledge of labour legislation (BCEA, LRA, EEA)
- Willingness to work extended hours and travel when required
- Valid drivers licence and own transport
- Strong decision-making ability and problem-solving skills
- High level of professionalism, resilience, and emotional intelligence
- Ability to drive change, improve processes, and influence business outcomes
