Debt Collector (Half Day)

Job Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and professional Debt Collector to manage outstanding accounts and ensure timely recovery of arrears. The successful candidate must be proactive and will play a key role in maintaining cash flow by following up on overdue rental payments and related property accounts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contact tenants regarding overdue accounts via phone, email, and written communication
  • Negotiate payment arrangements and follow up on commitments
  • Issue Letter of Demand
  • Maintain accurate records of all communication and payment agreements
  • Monitor accounts to identify outstanding debts and escalate where necessary
  • Prepare reports on collection activities and outstanding balances
  • Liaise with property managers regarding tenant accounts
  • Handle sensitive situations professionally while maintaining positive relationships
  • Ensure compliance with relevant South African debt collection regulations and company policies

Minimum Requirements:

  • Fluent in Afrikaans and English
  • Previous experience in debt collection, credit control, or accounts receivable (preferably in property or rental environment)
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Basic accounting or bookkeeping knowledge
  • Basic Knowledge of TPN Credit bureau
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
  • Proficiency in Pastel and Pastel Debtors management
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a half-day role
  • High level of integrity and professionalism

Advantageous:

  • Knowledge of property management systems
  • Familiarity with South African debt collection laws and processes

Working Hours:

  • Half-day position (e.g., mornings – to be agreed)

Remuneration:

  • Market-related salary (pro rata for part-time hours), based on experience
