KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform fabrication, welding and boilermaking activities on mining equipment and structures.
- Conduct repairs and maintenance on plant equipment, chutes, hoppers, conveyors, pipelines and structural components.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, diagrams and fabrication specifications.
- Measure, mark, cut, bend and shape steel and other materials according to specifications.
- Carry out MIG, TIG, arc and/or COâ welding as required.
- Perform maintenance and repairs on structural steelwork and mechanical components.
- Assist with the installation, modification and alignment of plant and equipment.
- Inspect equipment and structures to identify defects, damage and potential failures.
- Perform planned and preventative maintenance activities.
- Troubleshoot and rectify mechanical and structural faults.
- Ensure all fabricated components meet required quality and dimensional specifications.
- Operate fabrication equipment and hand/power tools safely and correctly.
- Complete maintenance and inspection records accurately.
- Work closely with Artisans, Fitters, Millwrights and Maintenance Supervisors to ensure plant availability.
- Adhere to all mining safety standards, procedures and regulations.
- Participate in safety meetings, risk assessments and toolbox talks.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
- Perform standby, overtime and call-out duties when required.
- Grade 12 / Matric.
- Recognised Boilermaker Trade Test.
- Relevant experience in a mining or heavy industrial environment.
- Experience with structural fabrication, welding and maintenance.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Knowledge of welding and fabrication techniques.
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety requirements within a mining environment.
- Good understanding of maintenance practices and procedures.
- Valid driver's licence will be advantageous.
- Mining-related certificates or experience will be advantageous.
- Strong technical and mechanical aptitude.
- Good welding and fabrication skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Problem-solving and fault-finding ability.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure in a production-driven environment.
- Strong commitment to safety and quality.
