Introduction Harmony Gold Mine is inviting applications from qualified and performance-driven individuals for the position of Fitter within our Engineering Department. The primary focus of this role is to provide a highly safe and efficient mechanical service through the expert maintenance and installation of equipment and machinery.
Working under the guidance of an Engineering Foreman, the Fitter ensures optimum equipment availability to support production while strictly maintaining mine safety compliance. Min Requirements Candidates must meet the following minimum criteria to be considered: A recognized Trade Test Certificate.
An N2 qualification with trade-related subjects, OR 10 years of experience as a qualified Artisan. A formal Learnership contract, proof of formal training, or a completed workbook. Valid Medical Certificate of Fitness. Valid First Aid Certificate. Proficiency in the English language. Own transport to reliably attend to call-outs and standby duties in good time.
Job Description Summary Reporting to the Foreman, the Fitter leads an engineering assistant to execute mechanical installations and repairs. Key responsibilities include: Inspecting, maintaining, and repairing mechanical engineering equipment within the assigned workplace according to set standards and specifications.
Performing underground testing for flammable gas using electronic hand-held instruments and executing risk assessments before commencing any work. Solving ad hoc mechanical problems as requested by the production team, and providing technical guidance to Stope Repairpersons and Servicepersons.

Managing material requirements by completing and submitting stock requisitions, and ensuring the correct tools are utilized for all tasks. Executing end-of-shift procedures, keeping tools safely stored, updating government/winder logbooks, and reporting daily occurrences directly to the Foreman.
