Health and Safety Officer

FORMAL EDUCATION:
- Grade 12 / Matric
- Diploma or Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety (Compulsory)
PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATION:
- SACPCMP Safety Officer registration (preferred / advantageous)
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 5 + years experience in an OHS/Safety Officer role
- Experience in multi-site, warehouse, logistics, or client environments advantageous
- Experience supporting audits and compliance programmes
- Valid drivers licence (essential)
- Own reliable transport (essential)
- Willingness to travel between sites
Technical Competencies:
- OHS Act and applicable legislative frameworks
- Risk assessment methodologies (HIRA)
- Incident investigation and reporting
- Audit and compliance management
- Safety file and document control

- Ensure full compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act) and applicable regulations
- Monitor adherence to internal safety standards, policies, and client requirements
- Support alignment to best practice frameworks (e.g. ISO 45001 principles where applicable)
- Promote a proactive, accountable safety culture across all business units
- Maintain fully compliant, audit-ready safety files across all sites
- Ensure effective document version control and accessibility
- Manage core documentation including, Risk Assessments (HIRA), Method Statements (RAMS), Incident Reports, Training Records and Safety Procedures
- Conduct and review risk assessments for operations and projects
- Ensure implementation and monitoring of control measures
- Engage stakeholders to ensure risk ownership and accountability
- Identify high-risk areas and escalate where required
- Plan and execute bi-annual and ad hoc safety audits across all sites
- Prepare sites for, Internal audits, External audits, and Client compliance reviews
- Identify non-conformances and implement Corrective Action Plans (CAPs)
- Track and report on closure of audit findings
- Conduct regular inspections to identify hazards and unsafe conditions
- Drive corrective and preventative actions
- Ensure compliance with operational safety standards, including PPE usage
- Support incident investigations and root cause analysis
- Implement corrective and preventative measures
- Maintain incident records and reporting accuracy
- Contribute to continuous improvement of the Safety Management System
- Support safety compliance across client environments and project sites
- Prepare and maintain project-specific safety files
- Ensure compliance with client-specific safety requirements
- Participate in project risk assessments and site review
- Engage with Regional Managers, Site Managers, and Project Teams
- Provide expert OHS input in meetings and operational forums
- Participate in SHE Committee meetings where required
- Maintain accurate records of Site visits, Inspections, and Safety activities
- Prepare and submit safety performance reports
- Ensure timely time bookings and reporting compliance (Teams system)
