FORMAL EDUCATION:

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • Diploma or Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety (Compulsory)

PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATION:

  • SACPCMP Safety Officer registration (preferred / advantageous)

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 5 + years experience in an OHS/Safety Officer role
  • Experience in multi-site, warehouse, logistics, or client environments advantageous
  • Experience supporting audits and compliance programmes
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Valid drivers licence (essential)
  • Own reliable transport (essential)
  • Willingness to travel between sites

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Legislative Compliance & Safety Governance
  • Ensure full compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act) and applicable regulations
  • Monitor adherence to internal safety standards, policies, and client requirements
  • Support alignment to best practice frameworks (e.g. ISO 45001 principles where applicable)
  • Promote a proactive, accountable safety culture across all business units
Safety File & Document Control
  • Maintain fully compliant, audit-ready safety files across all sites
  • Ensure effective document version control and accessibility
  • Manage core documentation including, Risk Assessments (HIRA), Method Statements (RAMS), Incident Reports, Training Records and Safety Procedures
Risk Assessment & Hazard Management
  • Conduct and review risk assessments for operations and projects
  • Ensure implementation and monitoring of control measures
  • Engage stakeholders to ensure risk ownership and accountability
  • Identify high-risk areas and escalate where required
Audits, Compliance & CAP Management
  • Plan and execute bi-annual and ad hoc safety audits across all sites
  • Prepare sites for, Internal audits, External audits, and Client compliance reviews
  • Identify non-conformances and implement Corrective Action Plans (CAPs)
  • Track and report on closure of audit findings
Site Inspections & Operational Safety
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify hazards and unsafe conditions
  • Drive corrective and preventative actions
  • Ensure compliance with operational safety standards, including PPE usage
Incident Management & Continuous Improvement
  • Support incident investigations and root cause analysis
  • Implement corrective and preventative measures
  • Maintain incident records and reporting accuracy
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of the Safety Management System
Project & Client Safety Support
  • Support safety compliance across client environments and project sites
  • Prepare and maintain project-specific safety files
  • Ensure compliance with client-specific safety requirements
  • Participate in project risk assessments and site review
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
  • Engage with Regional Managers, Site Managers, and Project Teams
  • Provide expert OHS input in meetings and operational forums
  • Participate in SHE Committee meetings where required
OHS Administration & Reporting
  • Maintain accurate records of Site visits, Inspections, and Safety activities
  • Prepare and submit safety performance reports
  • Ensure timely time bookings and reporting compliance (Teams system)
