Our client is a rapidly growing confectionery company currently operating in Gauteng, with a mission to bring joy to its customers through edible art and a vision to be the leading confectionery e-tailer in the country by 2027. The organization is run by its founder, a team of 25 bakers, cake decorators, sales agents, and other young visionaries who foster a strong culture of empowerment.

The Role: Operations Manager

The Operations Manager's overall role is to oversee the company's daily functions and improve efficiency through the management of teams, company assets, and costs. Working within the Production Department, with oversight of the retail branches and reporting to the Director, this is a fast-paced job with a strong emphasis on urgency, high performance, and problem-solving to prepare the business for scale.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the business, keeping maximum profitability front of mind.
  • Identify trends and patterns to make data-informed decisions that drive operational improvements.
  • Monitor Production processes, including order processing, baking, decorating, packing, and distribution, to identify bottlenecks, forecast demand, and optimize resources.
  • Oversee the organization's teams to ensure smooth communication between departments and develop and implement standard operating procedures across the production facility.
  • Motivate the workforce, including the Production Team Leader and their team of bakers, decorators, packers, cleaner, and driver, to ensure alignment to the goal of 100% on-time delivery rate.
  • Manage all procurement processes, inventory processes, and inventory staff to ensure minimal stock losses and over-purchasing.
  • Manage all health and safety processes to ensure compliance and risk mitigation.
  • Manage all assets, including equipment, technology, and company vehicles, to ensure compliance, maintenance, and safety.
About You
  • Proven success in a fast-paced, results-driven operational role and proven success in leading teams.
  • Bachelor's Degree or similar tertiary education.
  • Own laptop and vehicle required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Apple iOS required.
  • Proven ability to develop standard operating procedures and a strong working knowledge of inventory management.
  • Strong strategic planning, crisis management, excellent communication, collaboration, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong sense of ownership to run the business like it is your own, with an appetite for scaling a business.
  • Strong knowledge of the food manufacturing industry will be advantageous.
