Plant Layout / Plant 3D Designer – Mining & Mineral Processing
Industry: Engineering Consulting | Mining & Mineral Processing
Key Software: Autodesk AutoCAD Plant 3D
About the Opportunity
We are recruiting an experienced Plant Layout / Plant 3D Designer for an engineering consultancy based in Kempton Park, Gauteng.
The successful candidate will be involved in the design, development and coordination of 3D plant layouts for mining, mineral-processing and industrial facilities.
This role requires someone with practical experience in plant arrangement, process equipment layouts, piping integration and multidisciplinary 3D modelling using Autodesk Plant 3D.
We are looking for a designer who understands how a process plant operates and can translate engineering information into practical, coordinated and constructible plant layouts.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and maintain integrated 3D plant models using Autodesk AutoCAD Plant 3D.
- Prepare general arrangement (GA) drawings, plant layouts, equipment arrangements, sections and detailed engineering drawings.
- Develop layouts for mineral-processing equipment such as crushers, mills, screens, conveyors, pumps, tanks and associated plant systems.
- Design and coordinate piping arrangements, equipment connections, pipe racks and service routes.
- Interpret P&IDs, process information, vendor drawings and equipment specifications to produce accurate plant layouts.
- Coordinate plant models with mechanical, piping, structural, civil, process, electrical and instrumentation disciplines.
- Participate in 3D model reviews, identify clashes and resolve design coordination issues.
- Ensure plant layouts accommodate maintenance access, equipment removal, lifting requirements, walkways, platforms, stairs and safe operational access.
- Incorporate engineering design changes and maintain accurate drawing revisions and model documentation.
- Produce construction-ready drawings and relevant material take-offs where required.
- Work closely with engineers and other designers to ensure practical, efficient and technically sound design solutions.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with Autodesk AutoCAD Plant 3D in an engineering design environment.
- Relevant experience in mining, mineral-processing or comparable industrial process plant design.
- Experience developing coordinated 3D plant layouts incorporating process equipment, piping and associated structures.
- Ability to prepare and interpret general arrangement drawings, equipment layouts and engineering details.
- Good understanding of mechanical equipment arrangements, piping systems and plant interfaces.
- Ability to interpret P&IDs, engineering sketches, process information and vendor documentation.
- Understanding of plant constructability, maintenance access, equipment clearances and operational requirements.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Strong technical drawing ability, attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and contribute effectively to project design teams.
Important: Applicants must have practical Autodesk Plant 3D experience. Familiarity with other 3D design software alone will not satisfy this requirement.
