Logistics Coordinator

Our client is a technology-driven transport company based in Kraaifontein. They use a platform to connect shippers with transporters and manage road freight end-to-end for efficient, on-time delivery. Their goal is to be Africa’s go-to transport partner, built on innovation, teamwork, and precision.
They are looking for a driven Logistics Coordinator to join their team.
In this role, you'll own the full commercial and operational cycle of road‑transport movements; from first call to final POD, while growing a profitable account/sales portfolio with a strong team beside you. You will prospect shippers, price and win work, secure the right transporter/owner‑driver, run the load end‑to‑end with control‑tower discipline, and turn each successful trip into repeat revenue.
You are supported during every part of the journey and can rely on a very strong senior team for assistance and guidance. High Level Functions:
- Relationship Building: Foster strong relationships with customers/transporters and understand their specific transportation needs. Ensure that all aspects of a customer's supplier requirements are understood, this will include pricing, routes, product, account size etc;
- Lead Generation: Make calls to establish relationships and build your book of business. Proactively identify potential clients through research and networking to contribute to lead generation;
- Customer Onboarding: Sell and close new and existing customers to move their loads;
- Negotiation: Negotiate price with customers and suppliers;
- Book loads: Constantly book and secure loads with shippers/clients;
- Daily Operations: Manage all aspects of a customers daily loads, resolving issues, to ensure pickup and delivery is on time;
- Communication: Be honest and proactive in all your communications - internally and externally
- Growth: As the Logistics Coordinator, your key responsibilities encompass a strategic focus on growth. This involves adeptly following through with customer leads, supplier leads and assisting with all early stage operational requirements to grow this sector which is currently in its infancy within the group;
- CRM: You will be required to track all your progress regarding deals in our CRM system (currently Monday.Com);
- Team: As the requirement for additional staff resources arises, we expect you to provide insights into new hires
- Call and message fresh leads and lapsed shippers, logging every touchpoint in the CRM.
- Gather full trip specs-commodity, lane, volume, equipment, and special loading or tracking needs—for precise quoting.
- Build lane rates from market intel and transporter quotes, send sharp proposals, and negotiate margins to win the load.
- Secure a compliant transporter, double-check licences and GIT cover, and issue a clear load confirmation to lock in capacity.
- Brief drivers on SOPs such as corner plates, straps, seals, and TAT rules, then activate live tracking for each trip.
- Monitor ETAs in real time, resolve route exceptions before they escalate, and keep shippers updated without being asked.
- Upsell new lanes, request referrals, and convert first-time shippers into loyal, recurring revenue.
- Update CRM/TMS and review BI dashboards for margin drift, carrier trends, and performance insights, then act on the data.
- Plan tomorrow’s prospecting targets and flag any overnight watch-loads before signing off.
Requirements
Must-Have Experience- 2–5+ years in road transport (sales and/or operations): shipper sales, transport sales, or operator roles;.
- Proven new-business prospecting and pipeline discipline (daily call targets, follow-ups, CRM hygiene).
- Rate building & negotiation on spot and rate-sheet work; understands buy-rate vs sell-rate and margin protection.
- Strong dispatch/control-tower basics: pre-briefs, live tracking, ETA control, exception management.
- Documentation: load confirmations, PODs, claims basics, and invoicing hand-off.
- Working knowledge of: equipment types (tautliner, pantech, superlinks etc), securement (corner plates/straps), GIT/insurance, TAT/SLAs.
- Comfortable with Google Workspace, CRM/TMS and spreadsheets.
- Existing shipper relationships and/or transporter network;
- Bulk commodities, RFQ management, or contract lane experience;
- Exposure to telematics/camera tracking and control-tower workflows;
- Basic understanding of early-settlement and fuel value-adds for transporters
