Technical Advisor (Agronomist)

Minimum requirements for the role:
- Must be a qualified Agronomist with a degree or an equivalent tertiary qualification (BASOS, AVCASA or similar crop-protection accreditation is advantageous)
- Must have a strong background in plant nutrition and crop production with sound knowledge of soil science
- Proven ability to interpret soil, water and plant-tissue analyses and convert results into practical nutrition and soil-management plans
- Knowledge of biologicals / IPM programmes is advantageous
- Experience conducting in-field crop, soil and nutritional assessments across multiple cropping systems, including row crops
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical information to farmers, TSRs and commercial colleagues
- Experience designing and interpreting field trials and product evaluations is advantageous
- Must have a valid drivers license and willingness to travel regularly for farm visits, trials, farmer days and client meetings
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Providing expert agronomic advice to farmers, clients, and technical sales representatives on plant nutrition, soil management, crop physiology, irrigation, and crop production, with recommendations tailored to crop, soil, and environmental conditions.
- Conducting in-field assessments of soil health, root development, irrigation practices, and nutritional status, using appropriate methods and equipment to measure properties such as pH, texture, and nutrient status.
- Collecting, handling, and submitting soil, water, and plant-tissue samples correctly, then interpreting laboratory results to identify constraints and develop customised nutrition and soil-management plans.
- Supporting the technical positioning and stewardship of products so recommendations are scientifically sound, commercially relevant, and aligned with integrated crop-management principles.
- Diagnosing and resolving soil- and nutrition-related production problems with solutions that are both scientifically robust and practical for the grower.
- Preparing clear, timely technical and soil-analytical reports covering field observations, trial results, product evaluations, and agronomic recommendations for internal and external stakeholders.
- Presenting findings to farmers and clients in an accessible way, using data visualisation where helpful, and following up to discuss results and next steps.
- Building and maintaining trusted relationships with growers, scientists, TSRs, and commercial colleagues, and providing prompt, high-quality technical support.
- Training and supporting TSRs on agronomy and soil science, and presenting at farmer days, study groups, product launches, and grower meetings.
- Coordinating agronomy and soil-assessment projects, including timelines, resources, and progress reporting, while staying current with research and professional development in soil science and agronomy.
