Purpose of the Position
  • The Transport Manager is responsible for managing, planning, and coordinating Transport operations, which include delivery and driver management.
  • Position Details:
  • Role: Transport & Fleet Manager
  • Industry Experience: Supply Chain / FMCG / Logistics (preferred)

Key Requirements: Proven experience in demand planning or forecasting

Strong analytical and Excel skills
Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure

Relevant Degree in Supply Chain Management.

Key Functional Responsibilities

The Key Functional responsibilities of the Transport Manager include, but is not limited to: Financial Responsibility
  • Ensure costs are captured in the month incurred (Labour, Vehicle R&M, Stock Losses, Fuel).
  • Ensure unprocessed costs are accrued in the month incurred.
  • Ensure monthly transport department expenditure is maintained within budget a budget will be provided and discussed with you.
  • Explain the variance of the budget versus the actual.
  • Ensure cost overruns are investigated, and appropriate countermeasures are instituted to prevent further overruns.

Operational Delivery Schedule

Ensure the maintenance of the delivery schedule in Plato, i.e., implementation of new stores.
Ensure the most effective and efficient execution of the delivery schedule, i.e., the lowest possible Cost Per Kilometer.
Ensure routes are executed in accordance with the daily delivery planning meeting.

Ensure that changes are made on the delivery schedule to optimize kilometers.

Adhoc Vehicle and Driver Management

Responsible for executing NSD requests.
Responsible for arranging for any ad hoc vehicles as required to meet delivery schedule requirements.
Responsible for ensuring all adhoc vehicles hired with a driver and to manage the driver whilst on site and through delivery concerned till complete.
Responsible for Adhoc Vehicles KMs travelled, Fuel Utilised, and Driver Hours Management.

Responsible for the management of handover of all adhoc vehicles hired from or back to the service provider concerned, and to ensure check and sign off on vehicles to and from the service provider.

EPOD & Trackmatic

Ensure all daily routes are executed on Trackmatic and EPOD as per company procedures.

People Management
  • Host monthly staff meeting with minutes.
  • Develop and manage Staff schedules.
  • Ensure that all staff maintain DQSP certification, i.e., PDPs, LMI, Medicals, and fridge calibrations
  • Ensure a succession plan is in place for career levels.
  • Liaising with the HR department so as to understand all the necessary aspects and needs of HR development, and ensuring all staff are fully informed of HR objectives, purposes, and achievements.
  • Manage a stable HR climate in the workplace.
  • Liaising with HR regarding overtime and absenteeism, motivating staff,
  • recruiting staff, training, mentoring, coaching, and developing staff according to company policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular performance appraisals with subordinates and ensure that the process is cascaded throughout the warehousing team.
  • Develop and manage a high-performance multidisciplinary team in order to solve problems within the distribution centre.
  • Coach and support team members where necessary to achieve objectives.
  • Uphold the companys disciplinary code of conduct at all times, demonstrating fairness when dealing with discipline.
  • Ensure the adequate recruitment of drivers and van assistants to match the requirements of the daily delivery schedule demands.
Transport Fleet Operations Touchpoints
  • Responsible for washing and precooling of vehicles before loading.
  • Responsible for ensuring the vehicle on bay on time as per the loading plan.
  • Responsible to coordinate and managing all transfers and handovers of vehicles between Operations for loading and on return to the DC, between DCs or to and from service providers; Must manage all vehicle hand overs Inc. completion and signing off of vehicle check sheets on delivery and collection of vehicles.
  • Responsible for vehicle movement and allocation per region.
  • Responsible for ensuring fleet KMs are balanced between vehicle types, in line with manufacturers maintenance contracts.
  • Equipment maintenance (Trucks and delivery equipment, Inc., Bulkheads and Shoring Bars, and all MHE ). Assets are well-maintained and in good working order.
  • Preventive maintenance measures are practiced to prevent unnecessary expenditure
Fuel Management
  • Responsible for the on-site receipt of fuel as per the Fuel Control Procedure.
  • Responsible for on-site storage management and daily dipping and recon of fuel as per the Fuel Control Procedure. Responsible for any Homebase equipment maintenance as per the Fuel Control Procedure
  • Responsible for the maintenance of the on-vehicle fuel equipment and accessories as per the Fuel Control

Qualification Required

Minimum Required
  • Grade 12 with Higher Grade Math
  • Tertiary Diploma / Degree / Qualification
  • MS Office ( PowerPoint, Projects, Word, Outlook)
  • Advanced MS Excel Skills
  • Advanced Warehouse Management System (WMS) Skills
