Assistant Financial Manager

Leading medium-sized company in design, manufacturing, and sourcing, supplying promotional and retail products to clients worldwide, is looking for an Assistant Group Financial Manager to join their young, dynamic team in Epping, Cape Town

We are looking for someone hardworking, willing to jump in and take action (hands-on) when required and have an overall positive demeanour.

• Financial Reporting & Analysis: Assisting FM in preparing accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets and cash flow reports.
• Accounting Operations: Overseeing day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable/receivable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance. Reconciliations of main and sub-accounts.
• Budgeting & Forecasting: Assisting in the formulation of budgets, tracking expenses, and analysing variances to aid in financial planning.
• Compliance & Internal Controls: Ensuring adherence to statutory regulations, company policies, and maintaining internal control systems.
• Tax & Audit Support: Assisting FM with tax filing and providing documentation for internal/external audits.
• Stock Support: Assisting with stock take (oversee & audit inventory stock take and investigate and report on variances). Assist in implementing the necessary controls post-stocktake.
• Investigation: Cost and variance analysis with a view to understanding the operational process and the impact on the General Ledger. Investigating, flagging, and rectifying Journal entry discrepancies for stock adjustments (e.g. 3 way check on purchase orders).
• ERP System Controls: Loading of pricing on ERP system. Assisting with system stock adjustments on ERP system (only value adjustments, not actual stock adjustments).
• Costings: Product Cost Planning, Cost Object Controlling, Production Planning, and Material Management. Assisting with actual costings for the sales teams to quote to customers (import, trading, local CMT and manufacturing costings for finished product and branding.
• Recon on costings: Evaluating the costing of products and recon back based on a Bill of material.
• Operational Reporting: Key operational finance reports, out-of-stock reports with financial impact, Stack valuations, and variance analysis.
• Team Support: Mentoring accounting staff.

Essential Requirements:

• Education: A degree in Finance, Accounting, or equivalent, CIMA or CA advantageous.
• Technical Proficiency: Strong proficiency in ERP software (e.g. Acumatica, Pastel, Accpac, Sap etc.), and advanced MS Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs).
• Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyse data and investigate discrepancies (problem-solving skills).
• Soft skills: Accuracy, attention to detail, planning and time management is crucial.
• Experience: At least 5 years’ experience in Cost Accounting
• Experience: Previous experience in accounting or financial roles, previous stock and manufacturing environment experience is essential.
• Environment: Results-driven and able to meet deadlines in a high-stress and fast-paced environment (operational environment).
