Senior Protection & Automation Technician

ð Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance and calibration of protection devices, metering equipment, and switching devices (LV & MV).
- Conduct advanced troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of protection faults.
- Carry out equipment repairs, replacements, and wiring for protection systems and switchgear.
- Lead installation and configuration of protection relays, control systems, and metering equipment using OEM software.
- Oversee FAT, SAT, and site commissioning of switchgear, protection, control, and metering systems, including relay testing, transformer tests, fault simulations, and communication checks.
- Support MV/HV switching operations and isolation procedures in line with site standards.
- Mentor and coach junior engineers, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
- BTech or National Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
- Professional Registration with ECSA advantageous.
- ORHVS certification required.
- 5+ years experience in:
- Testing & commissioning of protection systems and switchgear (380V 33kV).
- Fault finding and troubleshooting on electrical systems (380V 33kV).
- Repairs, replacements, and wiring of protection systems and switchgear.
- Routine maintenance of protection, control, and metering systems.
- Familiarity with test equipment (digital secondary injection sets, CB analysers, ductors, thermal imaging, etc.).
- Strong understanding of MV mining networks, protection principles, and communication protocols (IEC 61850, Modbus, etc.).
