Payroll Accountant
Company and Job Description:
A well-established group of companies based in Malelane, Mpumalanga is seeking an experienced Payroll Accountant to join their finance team on a 3-month contract basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and overseeing the full payroll function across the business, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing while maintaining compliance with payroll legislation and internal controls.
This role requires a detail-oriented and deadline-driven professional with strong payroll accounting knowledge and hands-on payroll systems experience. The successful individual will work closely with Finance and HR teams to ensure smooth payroll operations within a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process and manage monthly and bi-weekly payroll functions accurately and timeously.
- Maintain payroll records, reconciliations, and reporting schedules.
- Ensure payroll compliance with statutory and company requirements.
- Process payroll-related journals and assist with payroll accounting functions.
- Manage payroll queries and resolve discrepancies efficiently.
- Assist with leave, overtime, deductions, and benefits administration.
- Prepare payroll reports and support audit requirements where necessary.
- Ensure confidentiality and integrity of payroll information.
Job Experience and Skills Required:
Education:
- Completed Degree or Diploma in Finance, Accounting, Payroll, or related field advantageous.
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years payroll processing experience is essential.
- Experience handling both monthly and bi-weekly payrolls is essential.
- Previous experience within a multi-company or high-volume payroll environment advantageous.
Skills & Competencies:
- Sage Payroll experience is essential.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
