Shift Supervisor (Supply Chain)

Key Responsibilities
  1. Shift Operations Management
  • Lead shift-based warehouse operations including receiving, storage, picking, packing, dispatch, and returns.
  • Allocate manpower and equipment based on workload and priorities.
  • Monitor shift schedules, staff attendance, and ensure timely dispatch of orders.
  • Verify receiving on SAP, perform daily checks on product condition, and enforce SOPs.
  • Support local, regional (SDA), and export dispatch requirements.
  • Conduct shift handovers to ensure continuity and address any escalated issues.

Key Metrics:

  • On-time dispatch rate
  • Order fulfilment and picking accuracy
  • Stock captured on SAP within 24 hours
  • Scanning and SOP compliance
  1. Inventory Control & Accuracy
  • Maintain real-time inventory accuracy through cycle counts and reconciliations.
  • Address discrepancies, stock variances, and monitor shrinkage.
  • Support monthly stocktakes and manage obsolete/slow-moving stock.

Key Metrics:

  • Inventory accuracy
  • Shrinkage/loss rate
  • Resolution time for stock discrepancies
  1. Continuous Improvement & Problem Solving
  • Identify inefficiencies and implement process improvements aligned with Lean and 5S principles.
  • Lead small improvement initiatives and escalate recurring issues with actionable solutions.

Key Metrics:

  • Downtime reduction
  • Operational cost savings
  • Productivity improvement rate
  1. Communication, Administration & Reporting
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of daily operations, exceptions, and performance metrics.
  • Maintain shift records, dispatch documentation, and KPI tracking reports.
  • Coordinate communication across departments and shifts.

Key Metrics:

  • Timely submission of reports
  • KPI updates and accuracy of documentation
  1. People Management
  • Supervise and develop shift staff to meet performance and behavioural expectations.
  • Manage attendance, leave, training, and performance feedback.
  • Foster a high-performing team culture through coaching and support.

Key Metrics:

  • Timely reporting to HR
  • Successful performance management and training interventions
  1. Governance, Risk & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety, environmental, and quality standards.
  • Conduct safety inspections, enforce safe practices, and maintain high housekeeping standards.
  • Manage FIFO/LOS practices and oversee quality control processes.

Key Metrics:

  • Safety compliance
  • Submission of health and safety documentation
  • Adherence to 5S standards

Minimum Requirements

Education & Qualifications:

  • Certificate in Logistics, Warehousing, Supply Chain Management, or related field (NQF 5 minimum).
  • Diploma (NQF 6) preferred.

Experience:

  • At least 3 years of experience in supply chain, logistics, or warehousing operations.
  • Experience in shift-based work environments.

Technical Competencies:

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, SAP, and warehouse management systems (WMS).
  • Solid understanding of warehouse processes and controls.

  • Effective communicator, resilient under pressure, and results-oriented.
  • Proven ability to coach and manage diverse teams.
