Senior Systems and Infrastructure Administrator

Purpose of the Role

The Senior Systems and Infrastructure Administrator is responsible for the administration, maintenance, monitoring, security, backup management, and support of enterprise IT infrastructure, including servers, virtualization platforms, cloud services, networking, cybersecurity, backup systems, and business-critical applications.

The role provides technical leadership, contributes to strategic infrastructure planning, mentors junior staff, and ensures the stability, security, and availability of all managed systems.

Minimum Requirements
  • Minimum of 5 years proven experience in server administration and infrastructure support environments.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a managed services (MSP) or multi-client support environment.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft 365 administration, Exchange Online, Entra ID (Azure AD), and hybrid environments.
  • Strong experience with Windows Server administration including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and file services.
  • Experience with Hyper-V virtualization, replication, high availability, and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Experience with backup and recovery platforms and business continuity planning.
  • Experience with firewall administration, VPN technologies, routing, switching, and network troubleshooting.
  • Experience with monitoring and management platforms such as LibreNMS, RMM platforms, and alerting systems.
  • Excellent documentation, communication, troubleshooting, and customer service skills.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel when required.

Qualifications:

  • CompTIA A+ Certification or equivalent qualification.
  • CompTIA Network+ Certification or equivalent qualification.
  • CompTIA Server+ Certification or equivalent qualification.
  • Microsoft, Azure, Hyper-V, VMware, Cybersecurity, or related infrastructure certifications will be advantageous.
Key Areas of Responsibility
  • Backup administration and monitoring of on-site and cloud-based backup platforms.
  • Server infrastructure administration, maintenance, and health monitoring.
  • Virtualization platform administration including Hyper-V and related technologies.
  • Microsoft 365 and cloud services administration.
  • Workstation deployment, configuration, maintenance, and security management.
  • Monitoring and management of IT platforms, cloud services, and infrastructure systems.
  • Documentation of systems, procedures, incidents, and configurations.
  • Mentorship and technical leadership for junior staff.
  • Procurement support and asset lifecycle management.
Server and Infrastructure Management
  • Perform routine server maintenance, patching, upgrades, and capacity planning.
  • Manage Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, file services, and identity management platforms.
  • Administer virtualization environments including Hyper-V clusters, replication, and failover procedures.
  • Maintain infrastructure security, antivirus, firewall, VPN, and cybersecurity controls.
  • Participate in infrastructure design, implementation, and improvement projects.
  • Support disaster recovery testing and business continuity planning.
Microsoft 365 and Cloud Administration
  • Administer Microsoft 365 tenants and associated cloud services.
  • Manage Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Teams, and Entra ID.
  • Support identity synchronization and hybrid environments.
  • Manage security, compliance, and conditional access policies.
Monitoring and Service Delivery
  • Monitor infrastructure health and availability using monitoring platforms.
  • Review and respond to system alerts, failures, and service interruptions.
  • Manage escalated technical incidents and problem management activities.
  • Maintain service levels and operational performance targets.
Leadership and Documentation
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior technical staff.
  • Maintain accurate infrastructure documentation and standard operating procedures.
  • Assist with technical reviews, solution design, and project planning.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and operational standards.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Maintain agreed infrastructure uptime and availability targets.
  • Achieve backup success and recovery objectives.
  • Meet service desk escalation and resolution targets.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date technical documentation.
  • Complete scheduled maintenance and security updates within agreed timelines.
  • Successfully execute disaster recovery testing and infrastructure improvement initiatives.
