DEVELOPER AND ANALYST: PEOPLESOFT (FOUR POSTS)

PEROMNES POST LEVEL 7

The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Configuration, customisation, development, integration and testing of relevant PeopleSoft modules:

System configuration and design:

Interact with key system stakeholders to:

Understand current business needs, business processes, procedures, policies, and/or problems in specific business domains, etc; Gather and document stakeholder requirements, concerns and problem areas; Model potential improved business processes;

Assist functional users in translating business needs so analysed into functional specifications, and in formulating the business case for undertaking desired developments, enhancements and/or customisations;

Layout and design of files where system customisations/ extensions are required:

Identify the desired data objects, do data normalisation and identify key fields; Perform data file design of new data files and/or changes to existing data files; Create conceptual data files, in consultation with the database administrators and with validation from more senior Analyst/Developers, and discuss changes to data files, as well as creating new layouts for data files, with database administrators;

Programming:

Propose development milestones. Code the programs by using the relevant particular programming language; Develop the necessary system integration interfaces, as specified and as needed. Make the necessary system changes and adjustments, so as to address the errors and changes that have been identified and/or specified;

System testing and preparation for migration:

Propose testing milestones; During the system configuration, development and/or customisation, attend to the necessary system testing and/or system unit testing:
Check that the outcome corresponds with the specifications for the relevant system development or system change; Ensure that the integration between the programs is correct and that it is executed correctly as a unit. Develop system interfaces which comply with the principles of best practice for system integration;

User support:

Provide support to functional leads with regard applications functioning in the specific PeopleSoft business domains in which the incumbent is competent; Assist where possible in the development of relevant end-user training material, and assisting where requested in the actual training of end-users; Transfer knowledge to other UP staff involved in the management and deployment of these PeopleSoft systems; Perform day-to-day system administrative functions, resolving and preventing problems and generally ensuring that previously defined/required processes continue to function;

Knowledge sharing:

Actively participate in initiatives aimed at ensuring a shared understanding of the PeopleSoft suites; related strategies; implemented infrastructure and development tools; Establish effective communication channels (with key stakeholders) and ensure documentation, configuration, monitoring and tuning of the implemented solutions; Monitor and research new technologies, “tools” and techniques for addressing business requirements.
Keep abreast of new technologies, tools, trends and techniques for PeopleSoft/PeopleCode;
System implementation

Contribute to defining envisaged implementation milestones, and then working toward these milestones; Compile, in co-operation with the relevant main user(s), the senior Analyst/Developers and Database Administrators, an implementation plan documenting the steps in the deployment process and projects to be migrated, tables to be built, etc.; Coordinate the actions of the various parties in deploying to Production and assist functional users in configuring (maintaining configuration of) the relevant PeopleSoft applications; Offer the necessary support in respect of users' access to the respective system functions and arrange for and obtain confirmation from users that implementation was successful; Give inputs into the users' needs for system-related hardware, e.g. printers and the positioning of printer;

System maintenance and upgrades:

Assist in incorporating and testing the release of new patches, bundles and maintenance packs and new versions issued by Oracle (of relevance to the domain being managed); Provide technical assistance to colleagues and team members and system administrators re bundles and upgrades; Support ITS to establish a robust and well managed suite of PeopleSoft applications that adheres to best practices.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

A relevant Bachelor’s Degree (e.g. B.Sc., B.Comm Informatics, B. Eng.), with:

A total of four years’ experience in:

Installing and maintaining PeopleSoft ERP systems – preferably in the PeopleSoft suite associated with the domain in which the vacancy exists – with demonstrable capabilities in PeopleTools technologies (Application Designer, PeopleSoft Applications Engines, PeopleSoft Application Packages, PeopleSoft EIPs, SQR, PeopleSoft Pivot Grids, PeopleSoft Excel to_CI; PeopleSoft FLUID designer and PeopleSoft Query, Oracle BI Publisher); Design; development, deployment, and maintenance of large enterprise (ERP) systems; Business application trouble-shooting and problem resolution; Working with users and providing user support;
OR

A relevant Bachelor’s Degree (e.g. B.Sc., B.Comm Informatics, B. Eng.), with:

A total of six years’ experience in:

The design, application development, testing and maintenance of complex, integrated business systems; Proven, hands-on competence and experience in software development using an object-oriented language such as Java, Python, Ruby, Perl, C++ JavaScript, etc., as well as a readiness to be trained and re-skilled in “PeopleTools” - the proprietary software development language that underpins Oracle’s PeopleSoft suites; Business application trouble-shooting and problem resolution; Working with users and providing user support;
ALTERNATIVELY

An applicable three-year IT related Diploma (e.g. National Diploma Computer Science, Diploma in Information Technology) with:
A total of six years’ experience in:

Installing and maintaining PeopleSoft ERP systems – preferably in the PeopleSoft suite associated with the domain in which the vacancy exists – with demonstrable capabilities in PeopleTools technologies (Application Designer, PeopleSoft Applications Engines, PeopleSoft Application Packages, PeopleSoft EIPs, SQR, PeopleSoft Pivot Grids, PeopleSoft Excel to_CI; PeopleSoft FLUID designer and PeopleSoft Query, Oracle BI Publisher); Design; development, deployment, and maintenance of large enterprise (ERP) systems; Business application trouble-shooting and problem resolution; Working with users and providing user support;
OR

An applicable three-year IT related Diploma (e.g. National Diploma Computer Science, Diploma in Information Technology) with:
A total of eight years’ experience in:

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

Knowledge:

Insight into the functionality of PeopleSoft ERP suites (viz. Campus Solutions and/or Human Capital Management and/or Financials and Supply Chain and/or CRM); PeopleSoft Upgrade Manager;

Technical competencies:

PeopleTools Application Designer, PeopleSoft Applications Engines, PeopleSoft Application Packages, PeopleSoft EIPs, SQR, PeopleSoft Pivot Grids, PeopleSoft Excel_to_CI; PeopleSoft FLUID designer and PeopleSoft Query, Oracle BI Publisher; Business analysis; System design; Project management;

Behavioural competencies:

Must be able to:

Communicate (orally and in writing) clearly and effectively with all stakeholders; Work under pressure and adhere to strict deadlines; Follow instructions, guidelines, policies and procedures; Identify specific needs and solve problems; Attend to a variety of tasks simultaneously; Maintain a high level of professionalism; Work in a multi-disciplinary team environment;
Must have

Ability to prioritise /give attention to detail /results-driven; Ability to function optimally under pressure; Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality; Availability and willingness to work after hours for resolving extremely critical production problems or tasks which should only be done after hours in order to reduce potential impact on users; Proficiency in MS Office (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Visio); An attitude of willing to learn from, and share with, others.

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

Courses in system analysis and design; Courses in appropriate PeopleSoft development tools, e.g. Application Designer, PeopleCode, PS Query, SQR and Web Services and PeopleSoft Reporting Tools; Courses in Project Management; Courses in Team Management; Business Analysis; Test Analysis; A total of two years’ experience in:

Tertiary education or similar environment; Deep functional insight into the PeopleSoft suite associated with the domain in which the vacancy exists, and experience in the implementation of components of this specific suite; Loading PeopleSoft patches and undertaking PeopleSoft version upgrades; Integrating applications using various system integration technologies;

A valid driver’s licence.

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
