Junior Accountant

Working as part of a hands-on finance team, you will take ownership of key accounting processes and contribute directly to the accuracy and integrity of the financial information used by the business.This opportunity will suit someone who is technically strong, naturally curious and hungry to growsomeone who doesn't simply want to complete tasks, but wants to understand the numbers and become a stronger accountant.
Duties and Responsibilities- Prepare and process month-end journals
- Perform General Ledger and balance sheet reconciliations
- Maintain accurate accounting records up to Trial Balance
- Assist with monthly management accounts and financial reporting
- Assist with VAT calculations and SARS-related requirements
- Maintain the fixed asset register
- Perform bank, creditors and debtors reconciliations
- Support month-end and year-end financial processes
- Prepare schedules and supporting information for audits
- Investigate discrepancies and resolve accounting queries
- Maintain strong financial controls and supporting documentation
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and efficiencies
Job Experience and Skills Required
Education:
- Relevant BCom Accounting / Finance qualification
- Completed SAIPA articles would be advantageous
Experience:
- Relevant accounting experience
- Strong understanding of the accounting cycle
- Exposure to Trial Balance, reconciliations, month-end and financial reporting
- Commercial accounting exposure would be advantageous
Skills:
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Good accounting systems / ERP exposure
- Strong analytical and reconciliation skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Deadline-driven and highly organised
- Confident taking ownership of responsibilities
- Proactive, energetic and eager to develop
- Able to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment
