At peopleworth, we support work where people and performance thrive. As part of our Employer Group, we work with a variety of forward-thinking partners and are excited to share this opportunity that sits within our growing group.

We are seeking a Litigation Attorney based in the Cape Town Northern Suburbs to take over an established and active client portfolio. This role spans a broad mix of litigation matters and requires a practitioner who is confident managing diverse cases independently while continuing to build and grow their client base over time.

The position operates on a predominantly commission based structure, supported by an initially enhanced base salary during the transition period.

Description

This opportunity is suited to a senior legal professional who is comfortable assuming responsibility for an existing book of clients while also actively developing new relationships to ensure steady and sustainable growth. The role covers a wide range of litigation work rather than a narrow specialisation, offering exposure across multiple practice areas.

The successful candidate will:

  • Take over and manage an existing client portfolio in the Cape Town Northern Suburbs
  • Handle a broad mix of litigation matters including civil, commercial, family, property and related disputes
  • Manage matters from initial consultation and legal strategy through to drafting, court appearances and settlement
  • Prepare pleadings, notices, applications and other court documentation in accordance with applicable rules
  • Represent clients in Magistrates Court and High Court proceedings
  • Provide clear, practical legal advice and maintain consistent client communication
  • Actively build and expand their client base through networking, referrals and professional relationship development
  • Strengthen long term client relationships to encourage repeat instructions and ongoing engagement
  • Ensure effective case management, deadline control and procedural compliance
  • Maintain accurate billing records and support responsible fee recovery aligned to agreed performance expectations
Requirements
  • Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa
  • Minimum 4 years post admission experience as a Litigation Attorney, non negotiable
  • Proven experience managing a varied litigation caseload independently
  • Strong drafting skills and confident court advocacy experience
  • Sound knowledge of Magistrates Court and High Court rules and procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and grow a client portfolio
  • Confidence in networking and building professional relationships within the local community
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple active matters simultaneously
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Clear understanding of and willingness to work within a predominantly commission based remuneration structure, supported by an initial transitional base salary
Benefits
  • Predominantly commission based earning model with strong upside potential
  • Initially enhanced base salary during the transition period, structured to taper as commission earnings stabilise
  • Collaborative, people centred performance culture
  • Opportunities to grow in a fast paced environment
