Financial Accountant
Location: Devonbosch, Western Cape (between Stellenbosch and Brackenfell)
An established multinational agricultural commodities group is seeking an experienced Financial Accountant to join its finance team. This is a permanent, full-time onsite position based at Devonbosch, conveniently located between Stellenbosch and Brackenfell.
The group operates as an integrated agricultural commodity trading, processing, and logistics business with milling facilities across multiple countries and a significant international trading footprint. The successful candidate will play a key role in financial reporting, statutory compliance, treasury management, and maintaining strong financial governance within the organisation.
Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Reporting- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations and substantiation.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain the fixed asset register.
- Prepare annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS.
- Oversee invoice, voucher, and payment processing within the ERP system.
- Review and approve credit notes.
- Monitor and review late payment interest calculations.
- Maintain and reconcile accounts receivable and accounts payable sub-ledgers.
- Review supplier reconciliations and ensure accuracy of debtor and creditor balances.
- Monitor daily cash transactions and journal processing.
- Review and authorise local and foreign supplier payments.
- Review monthly bank reconciliations.
- Support effective cash flow management and treasury controls.
- Prepare month-end journals and financial adjustments.
- Calculate and reconcile customer brokerage accounts.
- Prepare monthly management reports.
- Analyse selling, general and administrative expenses and identify variances.
- Prepare tax calculations, accruals and statutory submissions.
- Manage Income Tax, VAT and PAYE compliance.
- Prepare Reserve Bank and other regulatory financial returns.
- Maintain strong financial controls and corporate governance practices.
- Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements where applicable.
- Liaise with internal and external auditors.
- BCom Accounting degree essential.
- BCom Honours will be advantageous.
- Minimum 5 years' relevant accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of accounting systems and financial processes.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Sound knowledge of IFRS, the Companies Act, Income Tax Act, VAT legislation, and related financial regulations.
- Experience working with ERP systems and financial reporting tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
