Senior Financial Accountant â Insurance

A well-established organisation within the insurance and financial services sector is seeking a Senior Financial Accountant to join its finance team.
The successful incumbent will be responsible for performing professional accounting functions, including the preparation, consolidation, and analysis of financial information.
This role plays a key part in ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards and legislation, and effective financial control. You will work closely with senior stakeholders, providing financial insights, supporting business cases, and contributing to continuous improvement across finance processes.

Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare, analyse, and review financial statements, trial balances, and general ledger accounts
- Ensure compliance with IFRS, the Income Tax Act, and VAT legislation
- Perform and review reconciliations, including bank, balance sheet, and fixed asset
- Support financial policies, guidelines, and governance frameworks
- Assist with regulatory, compliance, and risk management activities
- Provide financial modelling input to support business cases and growth initiatives
- Prepare management reports, data analytics, and financial insights for senior stakeholders
- Investigate variances, resolve accounting issues, and provide technical accounting advice
Job Experience and Skills Required:
- Education:
- NQF Level 7 Finance qualification (Bachelors Degree / Honours)
- Articles advantageous
- Experience:
- 46 years experience as an Accountant within the insurance or financial services sector
- 12 years experience operating in a Senior Accountant role
- Skills & Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of IFRS, the Income Tax Act, and VAT Act
- Solid fixed asset accounting experience
- Advanced Excel skills and strong reconciliation capability
- Experience working with accounting systems and financial software
- Ability to engage with senior management
- Proven ability to work independently in a complex, fast-paced environment
