Duties & Responsibilities
  • Greet customers in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Assist customers with payment-related queries and provide accurate information where required.
  • Ensure a positive customer experience by maintaining a helpful and approachable attitude.

Cash Handling and Payments:

  • Process cash, card, and electronic payments accurately.
  • Issue receipts and ensure all transactions are recorded correctly.
  • Balance cash register at the beginning and end of each shift.
  • Report any cash shortages, overages, or payment discrepancies to the supervisor immediately.

Point of Sale Operations:

  • Operate the point-of-sale system efficiently and accurately.
  • Ensure all items, meals, beverages, or services are correctly captured before payment is processed.
  • Maintain knowledge of current menu items, prices, promotions, and hospitality service offerings.

Stock and Order Support:

  • Assist with checking customer orders against bills where required.
  • Communicate with waiters, kitchen staff, and supervisors to resolve order or billing issues.
  • Assist with basic stock control duties when required, including monitoring till-area supplies.

Hygiene and Workplace Standards:

  • Keep the cashier station clean, organised, and presentable at all times.
  • Comply with workplace hygiene, food safety, and housekeeping standards.
  • Follow company procedures relating to health, safety, and customer service.

Administration and Reporting:

  • Complete daily cash-up reports and submit all required documentation to the relevant supervisor.
  • Ensure all invoices, slips, and receipts are correctly filed or handed in according to company procedure.
  • Maintain confidentiality when handling customer and company information.

Teamwork and Communication:

  • Work closely with waiters, kitchen staff, management, and other team members to ensure smooth daily operations.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with customers and colleagues.
  • Assist with additional duties as required by management.
Experience & Qualification
  • Grade 12 / Matric.
  • Previous cashier experience within the hospitality, restaurant, hotel, retail, or customer service environment will be advantageous.
  • Experience using a point-of-sale system will be advantageous.
  • Good numerical skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays where required.
