Role Overview
Were looking for a skilled and security-conscious
Cyber Security Engineer to safeguard digital infrastructure. This role focuses on identifying vulnerabilities, implementing robust security controls, and responding swiftly to threats. You'll be responsible for both proactive risk mitigation and real-time incident response across on-premises and cloud environments.
Key Responsibilities- Design and implement security architectures across systems, networks, and cloud platforms
- Conduct regular vulnerability assessments, penetration tests, and security audits
- Monitor network and system activity using SIEM tools and threat detection platforms
- Investigate and respond to security incidents with root cause analysis and remediation
- Maintain and optimize firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, and endpoint protection systems
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards (e.g., ISO 27001, CIS, POPIA)
- Support secure system design, patching, and configuration hardening with IT teams
- Conduct staff security awareness training and support internal policy development
- Stay current on cybersecurity trends, tools, and emerging threat landscapes
- Assist in developing and testing disaster recovery and business continuity plans
Qualifications & Experience
Education & Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
- 35 years of experience in cybersecurity or IT security roles
Certifications (Preferred):
- CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional)
- CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker)
- CompTIA Security+ or similar
Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, and endpoint security tools
- Experience with tools such as Splunk, Wireshark, Nessus, Metasploit
- Solid grasp of Windows, Linux/Unix systems, and core networking protocols
- Familiarity with Microsoft Azure and cloud security best practices
- Scripting/automation skills (Python, Bash, PowerShell) are advantageous
- Analytical thinker with strong problem-solving skills
- Clear communicator, both written and verbal
- Able to work independently and collaboratively under pressure
- High attention to detail and disciplined in documentation and compliance
