Junior Engineer | Renewable Energy
An exciting opportunity is available for a Junior Engineer to join a specialised engineering consultancy working on solar PV and battery energy storage projects across South Africa.
The role offers a combination of monitoring, data analysis, fault finding, electrical design and technical project support, with the opportunity to develop your engineering career within the renewable energy sector.
The successful candidate will initially support the monitoring and performance function and, as the systems develop, take increasing ownership of the monitoring office while assisting the Professional Engineer with design and technical work.
Key Responsibilities- Monitor and analyse the performance of operational commercial and industrial solar PV sites
- Analyse system alerts and investigate plant performance issues
- Assign, dispatch and track work orders through to completion
- Perform energy yield and data analysis
- Assist with electrical concept and detailed designs
- Conduct fault analysis and identify root causes and corrective actions
- Support commissioning, inspections and technical fault finding
- Develop AI-assisted monitoring, reporting and dashboard processes
- Prepare monthly site performance reports
- Work with asset owners and external maintenance/SLA partners
- Support the engineering team with technical and design projects
- B.Eng or B.Sc (Eng) degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline
- 0 to 3 years' relevant experience
- Engineers with 3 to 5 years' relevant experience are also welcome to apply
- Final-year students completing their degree before the start date may be considered
- Ability to manage your own workload and divide your time between monitoring and project work
- Candidates must be based in Durbanville or willing to commute
- Renewable energy or solar PV experience
- Data analytics
- Python
- PVsyst or similar energy simulation software
- CAD, such as AutoCAD or ProfiCAD
- Strong MS Office and Excel skills
- Experience using AI tools within engineering or analytical work
- Starting salary from R22,500 per month
- Performance-based profit-share bonus linked to company performance and individual KPIs
- Laptop, mobile phone, data and required software provided
- Opportunity to work alongside a Professional Engineer
- Career development pathway towards Pr.Eng registration with ECSA
- Exposure to design, analysis, commissioning and site work
- Office-based role in Durbanville / surrounds once the new office is established
- Initially remote until the office is operational
