RESPONSIBILITIES:

Financial Reporting & Compliance
  • Assist in preparing accurate interim and year-end financial statements in line with accounting standards.
  • Ensure compliance with SARS and other relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Monitor and implement changes in financial regulations and accounting practices.
  • Provide full support during external audits, including documentation preparation and audit file compilation.
Taxation & Regulatory Submissions
  • Prepare and submit monthly VAT returns in line with statutory deadlines.
  • Perform monthly reconciliations of VAT and Income Tax control accounts.
  • Assist with NBCRFLI-related financial tasks to ensure compliance with industry-specific requirements.
Operational Finance & Transport Industry Tasks
  • Oversee daily financial operations such as supplier payments, customer invoicing, and payroll coordination.
  • Support cost tracking related to fuel, tolls, tyres, and maintenance, and assist in route profitability analysis.
  • Collaborate with depot and operations teams to provide real-time financial insights.
  • Ensure accurate allocation and reporting of fleet-related expenses.
  • Execute daily operational finance tasks to maintain efficient workflows.
  • Handle ad hoc finance and accounting tasks as assigned by the Financial Manager.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (e.g., BCom or equivalent).
  • Completed articles (SAIPA, SAICA, or CIMA).
  • Minimum 5 years experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or similar finance roles.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare financial statements and manage compliance.
  • Prior experience in the transport/logistics industry is preferred.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
  • Proficient in accounting software (e.g., Sage Evolution, Pastel) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for cross-departmental coordination.
  • Effective time management and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Sound knowledge of South African tax regulations, including VAT and PAYE.
