Financial Controller

My client is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to oversee financial reporting, reconciliations, compliance, and team leadership.
This role is ideal for a detail-oriented finance professional with strong technical accounting skills, excellent leadership ability, and a passion for improving financial processes.
This role is based in Bruma, Johannesburg East.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise the finance team, providing guidance, support, and performance management.
- Review correction journals, general ledger allocations, and monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
- Review and approve monthly VAT reconciliations and VAT returns before submission.
- Assist with SARS VAT objections, appeals, and related tax matters.
- Ensure intercompany loan accounts reconcile accurately on a monthly basis.
- Prepare and review management accounts, financial reports, and supporting schedules for management.
- Coordinate annual audit preparation by ensuring complete and accurate audit files with supporting documentation.
- Liaise with external auditors throughout the audit process.
- Analyse financial information to identify unusual variances and ensure accurate general ledger allocations.
- Assist with debtor-related queries, third-party invoicing, and bad debt assessments.
- Develop, implement, and maintain finance policies relating to VAT, fixed assets, intercompany loans, and other financial processes.
- Identify opportunities to automate and streamline finance processes to improve efficiency.
- Provide ongoing support to senior finance leadership on strategic and operational finance matters.
Job Experience and Skills Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Financial Controller or in a similar senior finance role.
- Proven experience managing and developing finance team members (minimum of 3 direct reports).
- Strong financial management and reporting experience.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
- Experience with MDA or Broll Online.
- Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organisational, communication, and interpersonal abilities.
