Fleet Controller / Transport Controller

Roles and Responsibilities

The Fleet Controller is responsible for the daily planning, scheduling, and coordination of driver activities to ensure efficient, cost-effective, and timely delivery of goods. This role plays a key part in managing fleet performance, maintaining communication with drivers, and ensuring compliance with delivery schedules and company policies.

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan and allocate daily delivery routes and schedules for drivers.
• Monitor driver movements and vehicle locations using tracking systems (GPS/fleet management tools).
• Communicate with drivers to provide updates, instructions, and support throughout their shifts.
• Ensure adherence to delivery deadlines, route plans, and customer requirements.
• Resolve delivery or route issues quickly to minimize delays or disruptions.
• Ensure drivers comply with traffic laws, safety protocols, and company procedures.
• Maintain accurate records of trip sheets, fuel usage, and delivery documentation.
• Coordinate vehicle availability for maintenance, licensing, and inspections.
• Monitor and report on driver performance, fuel consumption, and vehicle usage.
• Work closely with the warehouse, dispatch, and customer service teams to align operations.
• Assist in emergency response or breakdown scenarios by arranging alternate transport or support.

Requirements:

• Grade 12 / Matric (logistics or transport management qualification is an advantage).
• 25 years experience in a fleet or transport controller role.
• Good knowledge of local routes, road safety, and transport legislation.
• Proficiency in logistics software and vehicle tracking systems.
• Excellent planning, communication, and multitasking skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and solve problems quickly.
• Strong attention to detail and time management skills.
• Willingness to work shifts, weekends, or on-call when necessary.
