Job Description

Our client is seeking a technically strong and detail-oriented professional to join their team as a Reinsurance Contract Wordings Specialist.

This role is suited to an individual with a solid background in commercial underwriting and policy wordings, looking to further develop within a highly specialized reinsurance and contract structuring environment with regional exposure.

You will be responsible for:

• Drafting, reviewing and negotiating Treaty and Facultative Reinsurance Contract Wordings across life and non-life portfolios
• Ensuring contract certainty by managing wording queries and finalising agreements prior to inception of cover
• Aligning reinsurance wordings with cedant underwriting guidelines and regulatory requirements across South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa
• Providing technical guidance to underwriting, claims and legal teams on the interpretation and application of complex clauses
• Supporting the standardisation and continuous improvement of reinsurance wording templates and best practice clauses
• Assisting with renewal planning processes to ensure timely preparation and finalisation of contract documentation
• Conducting gap analysis on client reinsurance programmes and underlying risk portfolios
• Engaging with clients, cedants, reinsurers and internal stakeholders on wording-related matters
• Maintaining accurate records, documentation and correspondence across all engagements
• Supporting internal training and knowledge-sharing initiatives on reinsurance structures and contract wordings

• RE5 (FAIS compliant) (essential)
• NQF Level 5 (essential)
• Relevant tertiary qualification in Law, Insurance or Finance (advantageous)

Skills

The successful candidate will have:

• Minimum 5 years experience within a commercial underwriting, claims or technical insurance environment
• Strong working knowledge of commercial insurance policy wordings (non-negotiable)
• Exposure to reinsurance principles, structures and contract drafting
• Understanding of both Life and Non-Life (P&C) insurance environments
• Familiarity with regulatory frameworks within South Africa and broader African markets (advantageous)
• Excellent drafting, analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement abilities across diverse environments
• High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
• A proactive, solutions-driven and technically minded approach
