Senior Accountant (IFRS16) (Logistics and Courier Industry)
Our client, a well-established leader in the courier and logistics sector, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Accountant to join their finance team.
This role is ideal for a technically strong accounting professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced operational environment and takes pride in delivering accurate financial information, maintaining compliance, and strengthening financial controls.
You will play a key role in supporting the organisation's financial integrity, taking ownership of reporting, reconciliations, audits, taxation, and technical accounting matters while partnering with operational teams across multiple business units.
Key Responsibilities- Manage month-end accounting activities, including journals, accruals, provisions, and reconciliations
- Oversee IFRS 16 accounting, lease reporting, and compliance requirements
- Review and approve balance sheet reconciliations to ensure financial accuracy
- Analyse financial performance and provide meaningful management reporting
- Maintain fixed asset registers, including acquisitions, disposals, transfers, and asset controls
- Support the preparation of annual financial statements and statutory reporting requirements
- Manage VAT, income tax submissions, and correspondence with SARS
- Coordinate internal and external audit processes and ensure timely resolution of audit findings
- Provide technical accounting guidance and support to branches and operational stakeholders
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, reporting, and internal controls
- Ensure ongoing compliance with IFRS, tax legislation, POPIA requirements, and company policies
- BCom Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Completed SAIPA or SAICA Articles advantageous
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in a full-function accounting environment
- Proven experience managing both internal and external audit processes
- Strong working knowledge and practical application of IFRS 16
- Experience with VAT, Income Tax submissions, and SARS engagements
- Industry experience within logistics, transport, courier, supply chain, distribution, or wholesale sectors preferred
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Experience working on Sage ERP or similar accounting systems
- Strong technical accounting and financial reporting expertise
- Excellent analytical, organisational, and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and consistently meet reporting deadlines
