Health and Safety Intern
About the Role:
We are looking for a Health and Safety Intern to support our Health and Safety function in both office and field environments. This is an excellent opportunity for someone wanting to start a career in Health and Safety, working alongside our teams to help keep our people, sites, and communities safe.
Youll gain practical experience supporting compliance, monitoring safety practices, and learning how safety management fits into the wider operations of a business likeourswhere people work with heavy equipment, in dangerous terrain, and under pressure to deliver to national contracts.
Key Responsibilities:
Documentation Support: Help keep safety files, checklists, and compliance records up to date.Site Safety Checks: Assist with basic inspections on-site, such as checking personal protective equipment (PPE), signage, and crew compliance.
Incident Reporting Support: Assist in capturing incident reports and logging near misses under supervision.
Toolbox Talks Support: Help prepare materials for toolbox talks and safety briefings.
Safety Observation Capture: Record observations from safety walks or field visits.
Assist with Training Records: Help ensure records of crew training, inductions, and certifications are current and properly filed.
Monitoring and Follow-Up: Support the Health and Safety Officer by following up on corrective actions from audits or inspections.
Learning and Development: Shadow the Health and Safety Officer on audits and inspections to learn how safety is managed in practice.
Understand the Bigger Picture: Learn how strong health and safety management protects workers, prevents downtime, reduces risk, and helps the whole business succeed.

Qualifications:
- South African Unemployed youth between the ages of 18 and 34.
- Must not have participated on the YES programme before.
- Matric
- Entry-level: A short course or certificate in Occupational Health and Safety is helpful but not required.
- Interest in health and safety, risk management, or compliance.
- Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, email).
- Must be willing to work both in the office and outdoors on site.
