Chief Financial Officer
This role requires a finance leader who understands the nuts and bolts of manufacturing finance, particularly from a costing and production perspective. The successful candidate will play a critical role in improving margins, optimising working capital, strengthening controls, and ensuring accurate and insightful reporting that supports strategic decision-making.
The CFO will oversee the full finance function while remaining deeply involved in operational performance, plant profitability, and identifying opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvements. Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the full finance function, ensuring financial stability, compliance, and effective governance.
- Drive profitability through in-depth costing analysis, margin improvement, and production performance evaluation.
- Partner with plant and operational teams to identify cost-saving opportunities and operational efficiencies.
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning aligned to business strategy.
- Provide executive-level financial insights, reporting, and performance dashboards to support decision-making.
- Manage working capital, cash flow, and capital expenditure planning within a manufacturing environment.
- Ensure accurate financial reporting in line with IFRS and statutory requirements.
- Strengthen internal controls, risk management processes, and audit readiness.
- Lead and develop a high-performing finance team, ensuring delivery across operational and strategic finance requirements.
- Support strategic initiatives including expansion projects, automation, and process optimisation.
Job Experience and Skills Required:
Education:
- CA(SA) (essential)
Experience:
- Proven CFO / Finance Director experience within the steel manufacturing, heavy manufacturing, mining, or industrial sector.
- Strong operational finance background with deep exposure to production environments.
- Extensive costing experience, including standard costing, variance analysis, and product profitability.
- Proven ability to identify operational improvement opportunities and drive cost optimisation.
- Strong leadership experience managing finance teams and working closely with executive stakeholders.
Skills:
- Expert knowledge of costing principles and manufacturing finance fundamentals.
- Strong commercial acumen and ability to influence operational decision-making.
- Advanced financial modelling, budgeting, and forecasting capabilities.
