Junior Employee Benefits Department Accountant

An exciting opportunity exists for a Junior Accountant to join the Employee Benefits team of a large national organisation. Based at the companys Head Office in Cape Town, this role plays a key support function within the Payroll and Human Resources departments.
Capture and post bank transactions for multiple regions
Prepare monthly journals for RSA and African entities
Compile and maintain balance sheet reconciliations
Generate PAYE tax and statutory reports
Minimum of 5 years'' proven work experience in a financial accounting environment
Strong understanding of financial accounting principles and payroll-related processes
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the MS Office Suite
Working knowledge of Oracle EBS or similar ERP systems is advantageous
An analytical mindset with strong numerical skills
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
Effective written and verbal communication
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
The ideal candidate will have strong financial accounting knowledge, a flair for figures, and the ability to work accurately in a high-pressure environment.
This position will be responsible for the accurate costing, processing, and reconciliation of payroll transactions across RSA and other African operations. The role involves close collaboration with both payroll and finance departments to ensure financial accuracy and timely reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform payroll costing for both monthly and flexi staff across RSA and AfricaCapture and post bank transactions for multiple regions
Prepare monthly journals for RSA and African entities
Compile and maintain balance sheet reconciliations
Generate PAYE tax and statutory reports
Produce third-party and ad hoc reports as required
Requirements:
Relevant tertiary qualification in Finance (e.g., BCom or equivalent)Minimum of 5 years'' proven work experience in a financial accounting environment
Strong understanding of financial accounting principles and payroll-related processes
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the MS Office Suite
Working knowledge of Oracle EBS or similar ERP systems is advantageous
